Making Global Business Personal

Services

Translations

Electronic and printed media compose the bulk of our translation services. In order to provide the best translations available, we offer a variety of different services and turnaround times depending on each client's individual needs. This approach offers unique benefits and unsurpassed value. For example, our rush service prioritizes important documents such as press releases or urgent memos (translation within hours or just a few days, depending on length) for an additional fee. Our standard service is ideal for longer documents and includes a free check of source texts for typographical errors as an added bonus for all documents that are to be translated.

IT translations, technical translations and translation and proofreading services for additional areas including finance, business, industry, logistics and advertising help make your global business personal.

Localization and Search Engine Optimization

If you develop hardware or software or websites for international customers, you can increase your revenue by offering localized versions of your products and programs and the related documentation and marketing collateral. Localized and SEO versions of websites, product documentation, software menus, tutorials, help files and dialogs also lower support costs because end users generally have fewer questions when presented with content written in their native language.

From AI to content strategy to SEO, we've got you covered

Cornillie Consulting – Your AI Language Specialists

Sometimes only a handcrafted, human translation will do. Confidentiality, liability for mistakes, criticality, timing, the ability to understand nuances in culture or emotions are all factors that can only be adequately addressed by humans. In such instances, translation quality is better and speed is greater when the process relies on Human Intelligence (HI) alone. Indeed, it often takes longer to parse through all the unnecessary and inaccurate information generative AI produces than to simply do it right the first time.

However, many businesses have standard content that will be published on the Internet, which means it is not confidential and will probably be added to Large Language Models (LLMs) at some point anyway. If you are already using or considering tools like DeepL or ChatGPT for these projects, then we recommend consulting an AI Language Specialist, like Cornillie Consulting.

The role of AI Language Specialist combines linguistics theory, translation practice and AI prompt engineering along with other skills, such as Python programming to create optimized translation workflows. Here at Cornillie Consulting, we have all the experience, expertise and tools needed to provide high-quality translations at a lower price for anyone interested in AI-supported language services. This puts an expert linguist with decades of translation experience and in-depth knowledge of your industry in the Trados Studio cockpit, with AI as the co-pilot for results that go beyond what either Artificial Intelligence or Human Intelligence (HI) could do separately. You save time and money and can focus on your core business.

Why using AI to save money on translation costs may not be in your company’s best interests

More and more people are using tools such as DeepL and ChatGPT for translations. The advantages seem obvious: time and money savings. And for personal use, this may often be the case. For businesses, however, it’s not quite so simple. There are several issues to consider when uploading texts to another company’s servers for translation:

1) Confidentiality – Contracts, reports, financial statements, patents, tech specs, information on new product launches and proprietary data sources are either not intended for publication or only intended for publication at a certain time. At the moment, it’s unclear whether even the premium so-called “secure” versions of these applications or websites truly provide the security a professional translator can.

2) Copyright – Because Large Language Models (LLMs) can’t actually “think”, their generative capabilities are based on statistical predictions of which word should follow another. The “deep learning” aspect of these models entails scraping the web for information from millions of websites, books and other sources. There is no way to be certain you are generating unique content and that the copyright truly belongs to you. Similarly, it is virtually impossible to protect yourself from claims that you have plagiarized other sources. With Cornillie Consulting, the copyright for your translated text belongs to you when you pay your invoice, and it stays with you. You never have to worry about plagiarism because we create unique content just for you and can perform plagiarism checks for even more peace of mind.

3) Liability – AI cannot take responsibility for or ownership of its output. This means that AI companies cannot currently be held liable for mistakes – including ones that may be very costly for your business.

4) Use of your content to train AI models – You will not be informed of any AI model’s use of your content for training purposes. This means that your content could be reused, recycled or remixed in any way to generate new content. If you spend good money on expertly crafted content in German, why waste all that hard work to save a few euros on the English translation, which might actually be more important for your brand?

5) Data privacy – Using AI translation services that store or process data outside your jurisdiction may violate local data protection laws, such as GDPR in the European Union, and could unintentionally breach export control regulations that restrict the sharing of sensitive information across borders. Moreover, data can be intercepted during transmission or harvested from your cache, leading to privacy breaches or identity theft.

6) Accuracy – AI can make factual, contextual or grammatical errors. AI is not capable of consistently applying terminology. For example, you might want a term like “Dichtung” to be translated consistently as “gasket”. AI tools will usually translate it as “seal”. Even if you constantly remind the tool or provide it with a list of terms, it is unable to understand the context and apply the terminology with a common-sense approach in the way that a professional translator would. Searching for and correcting mistakes like these for hundreds of terms makes using AI more time-consuming than simply performing a professional translation. The same applies to SEO, keyword research, corporate branding and style guides. AI adherence is spotty at best. Here at Cornillie Consulting, we incorporate all these aspects and more in our work to create expert translations you can rely on.

7) Cultural nuance and bias – AI models may reflect inherent biases present in their training data, potentially leading to translations that are culturally insensitive or discriminatory.

8) AI doesn’t know you or your brand – Here at Cornillie Consulting, we have built relationships with many of our customers that have lasted for years or even decades. We believe in your brand as much as you do! We want to bring German ingenuity to the world – one carefully crafted word at a time.

9) AI lacks the necessary experience and expertise – We’ve had tools that speed up the translation process and save you money for decades. Features like autosuggest, terminology management, Q&A checkers and so much more have been a part of our computer-assisted translation tool, Trados Studio 2024, for many years. For most corporate texts, such as press releases, annual reports, brochures and websites, this approach is just as fast if not faster than multiple attempts at prompt engineering, copying and pasting translations, checking for mistakes and plagiarism and all of the many other steps involved in making AI translations publishable. And your intended audience will enjoy reading them, unlike AI-generated text, which is frequently lackluster, superficial and riddled with mistakes large and small.

10) Environmental, economic and ethical concerns – AI consumes a tremendous amount of resources, which has an impact on the environment and your company’s sustainability efforts. Indiscriminate use of AI may also have a negative effect on the economy, eliminating jobs or displacing entire groups of workers. If your customers are among them, this could have a chilling effect on your revenues.

Naturally, we understand that you might have budget concerns or time constraints that compel you to consider the use of AI for translation purposes or to create English content without a German source text. Copyediting and Proofreading

Whether the text is monolingual or a translation from or into German or English, we have the skills to help you deliver perfect communications.

Have you ever developed a product pitch or anadvertising slogan for a foreign market? Are you responsible for creating marketing copy directed at a broad, international audience? Often these phrases only comprise a few words. Their impact, however, is tremendous. As a professional, you know that every language has its own nuances, its own minute details that can make or break an advertising campaign. Wouldn't it be nice to have someone you can call who understands the market you are targeting? Someone who will give you honest feedback on your ideas and help you avoid making the linguistic faux pas so common in multilingual marketing copy today? For us, it only takes a minute to review a headline and offer suggestions for improvement. For many of our customers, however, this service is priceless.

For larger documents, in addition to proofreading our own work, we also offer copyediting and proofreading services for printed and electronic media created by third parties. In copyediting, native speakers proofread electronic and printed texts and offer suggestions for clearer sentence structure, more precise formulations, grammar improvement, vocabulary adjustment and the general "feeling" of the text. We also offer suggestions for the improvement of the tone of the text based upon whom the text is addressing. When proofreading we correct errors in spelling, grammar and punctuation and point out terminology issues.

We can provide feedback in electronic or printedform. We can proofread a variety of formats such as MS Office, OpenOffice, Adobe InDesign, .pdf or .html. We also offer free telephone consultation throughout the project life cycle.

Here are some examples of how we have helped our clients in the past:

  • Proofreading company and brand slogans and reviewing their impact on the relevant local markets
  • Copyediting advertisements, marketing brochures, white papers and technical documentation
  • Proofreading and editing corporate websites
  • Proofreading fiction and non-fiction books
  • Proofreading corporate communications, legal contracts, balance sheets and annual reports
  • Comparing the source language originals with the target language translations and checking for consistent formatting and terminology, unit conversions, style, grammar, mechanics and punctuation
  • Copyediting and proofreading service performed by an English-only editor from a target audience perspective
